level 1:Psychotic Mechanism ( Common in health individuals below age 5 )
Denial - Subconsciously refusal to admit unacceptable idea in the society. This is the most common defense mechanism at all time, or rather the most commonly used defense mechanism. ( eg. My husband is not a social drinker. where her husband always drunk )
Level 2: Imamture Mechanism ( common in ages 3 - 15 )
Projection - Attributes to others characteristics and feelings that one does not want to admit are ones own. (common in pinoy eg. you fart then you keep on denial na hindi ikaw ang umutot
)Level 3: Neurotic Defenses ( Common in ages 3-90 )
Repression - Unconsciously forgetting unpleasant experience (eg. a woman being unable to remember a suicide attempt )
Suppression - Consciously forgetting unpleasant experience.
Displacement - feelings are transfered to the other person or less threatening object ( eg. pinagalitan ka ng mom mo, then you kick a cat or the chair or your rooms door. ) - i thinks most common to sa mga teenagers

Reaction formation - Doin the opposite of what you feel ( eg. a man who is extremely polite and courteous to his mother inlaw, whom he intensely dislikes.)
Dissociation - Alteration in memory ( eg. A young adolescent has amnesia surrounding a traumatic airplacecrash in whish she was a survivor. )
Level 4: Mature Mechanics
Sublimation - Redirect feeling into a socially acceptabled. ( eg. A man who has strong competitive or aggressive drives channles his energy into building a successful business.
Other Common Defense mechanism are:
Rationalization - Giving a logical reason to avoid embarrassment
Regression - return to an earlier and more comfortable development level ( eg. a young adolescent begun to suck his thumb again )
Undoing - Doing something to counter act or make up a wrong doing. ( eg. a mother who just punished her child decided to bake the child favorite cakes. )
Compensation - cover up weakness by over emphasizing of desirable types of behavior ( eg. your not that good looking but you were valedictorian.)
Identification - unconsciously imitating another person usually the behavior of another or idealized person. ( eg. a young man chose to become a basketball player like his father )
