Final Fantasy XII (ファイナルファンタジーXII, Fainaru Fantajī Tuerubu?) is a console role-playing game developed and published by Square Enix for the Sony PlayStation 2 video game console, and the twelfth installment in the Final Fantasy video game series. It was released in 2006, and was the first single player Final Fantasy title of the main series since Final Fantasy X five years previously.[4] Selling more than two million copies in Japan,[5] it became the fourth best-selling PlayStation 2 game of 2006 worldwide.[6]
The game takes place in the fictional world of Ivalice, where the empires of Archadia and Rozarria are waging an endless war. Dalmasca, a small kingdom, is caught between the warring nations. When Archadia invades and occupies Dalmasca, its princess, Ashe, creates a resistance movement. During the struggle, she meets Vaan, a young adventurer who dreams of commanding an airship. They are quickly joined by a band of allies; together, they rally against the tyranny of the Archadian Empire.
Final Fantasy XII introduced several innovations to the series: battles occur without a transition to a separate screen; a "gambit" system automatically controls the actions of characters; and a "license" system determines which abilities and equipment are used by characters.[7][8] Final Fantasy XII also includes elements from previous games in the series, such as summoned monsters,[8] Chocobos,[9] and airships.[7] The game received universally high scores, and earned the title of "Game of the Year" from several video game publications. The sequel, Final Fantasy XII Revenant Wings, was released for the Nintendo DS on April 26, 2007 in Japan.[10Throughout the game, the player directly controls the onscreen character from a third-person perspective to interact with people, objects, and enemies. Unlike previous games in the series, the player can also control the camera with the right analog stick, allowing for a 360° view of the surroundings.[11] While in towns and cities, the player may only see from the perspective of Vaan, although any character may be controlled in battle. The world of Final Fantasy XII is rendered to scale relative to the characters in it; instead of a caricature of the character roaming around miniature terrain, as found in previous Final Fantasy games, every area is represented proportionally. The player navigates the world by foot, by Chocobo,[9] or by airship.[7] Players may save their game to a memory card using save crystals and may also teleport between special gate crystals.[12] An in-game bestiary provides incidental information about the world of Final Fantasy XII.[13]
Final Fantasy XII largely reforms the system of earning gil, the currency of the Final Fantasy games. Instead of gil, most enemies drop "loot", which can be sold at shops.[14] This ties into a new battle mechanic which rewards the player with improved loot for slaying a particular type of monster multiple times in a row.[15] Selling different types of loot also unlocks a Bazaar option in shops, which provides items at a lower cost, or items exclusive to the Bazaar.[14]

Well, you can change it to another weapon right?
But that might not be an advantage when an aerial monster comes around...
Anyway, besides Fran, isn't there any other characters that can be set into long-range combat? I'm using Balthier as well as Penelo in that aspect...

the only thing i hate about this game is there are new summons, bahamut, shive and ifrit is gone. instead you could find their names from the airships in the game.
one more thing is they replaced the the atb system to adb. (actual dimension battle) its looks cool but still i prefer the atb system.
the storyline is alryte, war, invasion, penetration, and in the end, the explosion. but there is no love story between the main characters. yuck! what happened?
the only thing i like about this game is there are so many things to do! boss hunt, mark hunts, item hunts! i like the the Ivalice universe, its so huge, its too bad theres no airships to travel, only chocobos.
i finished the game by 70%. and its all worth it!
i also have the collectors edition.
(hindi naman pag mamayabang...hehehe)

I think the creators wanted to focus less on the Love Story this time 'round... they focused on the storyline more, I guess... ^^,

Yeah... though other gamers thought it was time that the FFSeries to change their winning formula/s in making FFGames.
And the storyline, it was sad... many people died ni FFXII compared to FFX & FFX-2 regarding FFGames in the PS2 console.

Final Fantasy XII's story was a big disappointment for me. for someone who was weaned in grand plots that makes Milton look like an amateur, like VI, VII, and X, XII's was very shallow, and its character development sluggish, flat, and insubstantial. this might actually be a result of the XII team to focus on the "larger picture", which left the character formula bereft of... well, almost everything, in fact.
its saving grace however was its gameplay and graphics. according to a trivia i read, XII used less resolution than its predecessor (X and X-2), in exchange for better textures. in fact XII was "painted" so well you won't notice that it actually has jaggier graphics than X!
finished it a month ago with all Marks from Rank VII down completed, plus the Battle on the Big Bridge Elite hunt (yay! Genji Gloves + Masamune!). haven't gotten around to over-leveling for the Ultima and Zodiark Esper battles, though.
